Phoenix Running Club

Welcome to the Phoenix website.

We are a Coquitlam-based road, track and trail running club that meets two-to-three times a week for training sessions. We cater to all ages and abilities -- from energetic juniors to seasoned seniors -- and many of our members compete at a variety of distances and on a range of surfaces throughout the year.

Coaches John Taylor and George Gluppe oversee training, which usually takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, while we hold a club 5k Chase race once a month, on average. For full details, see the Workouts section.

Partnered with BC Athletics, the club also sponsors two races a year; the Mother's Day Spring Classic 5K in May and the Pinetree Classic Cross-Country 5K/8K trail run in September. We also gather for special outings, such as bike trips and mountain climbing expeditions.

New members are welcome and we'd love to have you join us for any or all activities.

What's New

Club news items will be posted below, along with notices every time we publish race results, update workout schedules, or make any other changes to the website.

THE WEEKEND... & VIDEO BONUS

Good luck to everybody racing this weekend -- be it the Golden Spike in Port Moody, Run for the Bun in Langley, Timex Series 8k in Kelowna or elsewhere. And happy training to everyone else. Meanwhile, Coach George has released a bit of video footage from the start of the Run for Canada 10k in Vancouver on Tuesday (see here). Don't blink, though, else you'll miss Nancy breezing past in the second group!

TINARI WINS CANADA DAY 10K IN GRAND STYLE

Congratulations to Nancy Tinari who fought off the challenges of Timex Series rivals Kristina Rody and Rachel Ruus to finish 1st lady overall in the Vancouver HBC Run for Canada 10k this morning. Nancy showed Ruus a clean pair of heels just after half-way, before reeling in Rody around the 7k mark. Mrs T then strode clear of her competitors during the final k, clocking a time of 36:35. That was good enough for 7th place overall... and earned her $1000! The full list of results can be seen here.

Meanwhile, Ruby Ferguson eased to an age group victory in the Pitt Meadows RFC7k yesterday, running 38:54 -- just two days after a sterling 1:47 at a half marathon in Bellevue, Washington! A fine effort, too, from Chris Tomkinson, who finished 5th overall in Pitt Meadows and won his age group in a time of 31:15. You can see the official results from the 7k here.
